Find Up-And-Coming Fujifilm Inspiration With 500px’s New Experience

· 29.December.2018

At 500px, we believe that great content should speak for itself. That’s why we recently made several changes to our platform to increase the visibility of high-quality photos and exposure for the photographers that create them.

We’ve changed both our web and mobile platforms to showcase more incredible images by 500px photographers, regardless of their follower count. Here’s what those changes mean for photographers looking to discover and share great photos on 500px—especially those on the hunt for awesome Fujifilm photographers.

Diverse recommendations

It can be challenging to gain exposure and recognition within a large community (like 500px’s network, with over 15 million members worldwide) without a significant follower base.

To help address the issue, 500px developed a new recommendation system powered by machine learning to surface more high-quality content regardless of the photographer’s follower count. The new technology aims to distribute exposure more evenly on the platform in light of the high content volume, providing more visibility for photographers and more diversity in the images showcased across the platform.

The changes to recommendations have also made it easier for you to discover more content tailored to your preferences. We chatted with Michael Tighe, 500px’s resident Fujifilm fan, about what he’s seeing in his recommendations since the launch, and whether he’s discovered any Fujifilm gems.

Q: How have recommended photos changed the content you see in your Home Feed?

A: I’m seeing a lot more recommended photos from photographers with small followings, which is great. There are a lot of great photographers on the platform that are still working their way up, and they can be hard to find.

Q: Have you found any cool new Fujifilm photographers through recommendations?

A: Yeah, I’ve found a few. Sometimes I will spot a photo in my recommendations and think to myself, “this was shot on a Fuji.” Then I’ll go check out the photo details to see—I get it right about half the time.

Q: What are your favorite Fujifilm photographers you’ve found through recommendations so far?

A: Here are a few that I’ve found through Home Feed recommendations recently:

Dan Jarvis, who only has 24 followers: 500px.com/danjarvis

Keiichi Ichikawa, who is bit more popular with around 1,000 followers, but whom I found through recommendations in any case: 500px.com/keiichiichikawa

And Rico Güntert: 500px.com/guentertrico

I follow a good number of Fujifilm photographers, many of which I found by specifically hunting for fellow Fujifilm lovers through the Gear pages on 500px. It’s not a majority – there are a lot of cameras out there! I would say, however, that I’m seeing more and more from the likes of Fujifilm and other mirrorless camera makers.
