Fujifilm is slowly updating all of its camera lines with the latest hardware and firmware it has to offer. Many lines, including the X100 and X-TXX line now have both the new high-resolution 40-megapixel X-Trans sensor as well as the new X-Processor 5. With the release of the X-T50, Fujifilm has brought the X-TXX series of cameras even closer to the X-TX series of cameras than ever before in terms of capability. This new little powerhouse has inherited a good amount of the capabilities of the X-T5 and, on the surface, looks like a very compelling camera for a lot of people.
Many of the first looks and initial reviews released alongside the X-T50 compare it directly with the X-T5 and suggest that it does just about everything most people would need. In this article, I want to take a look at what I see as the major differences after using the X-T50 for a few weeks now and discuss exactly what I feel you give up by going for the X-T50 vs the X-T5. These will be photography-oriented and very practical differences that will hopefully provide you with a good look at how these two cameras compare as well as a framework with which to compare some of Fujifilm’s other offerings.
Who is the X-T50 aimed at?
When the X-T5 was released, it was marketed under the tagline of “Photography First”, suggesting that Fujifilm was returning to the roots of the X-T lineup and making the experience about using the camera for photography rather than video. The X-T50, on the other hand, is being marketed under the tagline of “My Experience, My Color”, which very much hints at expressing yourself through the use of Fujifilm’s colours. The new X-T50, while having similar hardware to the flagship, is perhaps further away than ever before in terms of target audience…
