In this month’s interview, Stephanie Baxter is chatting to Valérie Jardin, a French photographer who has developed a unique style that is both evocative and authentic. Her work is characterised by a strong sense of narrative, capturing candid moments that reveal the human experience in all its complexity and beauty. Valérie’s work is also marked by her commitment to teaching and mentoring other photographers. Through international workshops, online courses, conferences and over a dozen books, she shares her knowledge and experience with others.
Valérie, as a long-time friend of FujiLove, you probably don’t need any introductions! But for those who might not be so familiar with you, can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do?
I am a French photographer currently based in the United States. My journey in photography began as a self-taught artist and I honed my skills over the years while working in the commercial photography industry. My true passion is street photography and today my work is recognised internationally through workshops, books, presentations, exhibits and more.
With my 23mm lens in hand, I approach each shot with a commitment to authenticity. Every frame is candid, capturing the raw emotions and beauty of the world around me. As an official X-Photographer for Fujifilm USA, I’ve been proudly representing the brand for nearly ten years.
My journey as a photographer has been life-changing. I am devoted to continuing my quest to capture the beauty of everyday life in the true tradition of the genre and inspire others to do the same.
Of all the aspects of photography I am involved with, I find the most satisfaction in sharing my passion and vision with others on the streets of cities around the world during the many photography workshops I lead each year.
