Reader Spotlight: Tarek Zaïgouche

My name is Tarek Zaïgouche and I am a French amateur photographer living in the South East of France. Photography has become a passion quite recently. However, 3 years ago, I was not even considering it as art. Obviously, I was totally wrong. Today, I love any kind of photography and I want to experiment with all of them!

I started with landscape photography in order to learn the technical stuff as well as to understand the principles of what makes an image interesting: the composition. Then I wanted to try a bit the portraiture. More recently, I focused on improving my street photography, which now I find being the most complex and even being art in itself. I feel very motivated to dig more into this area and hopefully to get better and better day after day!

Fujifilm and me

I began with a Fujifilm X10. I loved the fact that it could go fully manual which enabled me to try a lot and learn how to control my images. However, I was quite into pixel peeping and I wanted a camera with a better image quality, especially to cope better with low light situations. This is why I replaced it with a X100. At that time my love for this art began! Even though I faced some troubles with its focusing issues, I was in love with it, but like any love story, sometimes, it was so much a love hate affair that in the end I decided to sell it. I then got an X-E1, a stunning camera. I enjoyed having the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 a lot as well as the Fujinon 18-55 f/2.8-4. Still I was quite disappointed about the latency of the electronic viewfinder in low light. I sold it.

Few months later, Fujifilm released the X100T. The camera I was expecting was finally out. I grabbed one.

Its size is perfect for me. The hybrid viewfinder is a miracle. The lens is tack sharp, The camera performs very well. The image quality is outstanding. The fujifilm film simulations are gorgeous. This camera helped me to bring consistency to my photography.

I now feel I am in the right path to find my photography style. I don’t need anything else. I don’t want anything else (well… hum… except maybe… an X-Pro2 :-))

Some images

I recently visited India for 2 weeks. For such an adventure trip, I appreciated having a light camera which satisfies my requirements in terms of image quality. Even more, to me, it’s fundamental to have a camera that does not disturb the scenes. I don’t want people to notice me or at least to be intimidated or afraid of a big weapon that a DSLR can be.

I took the X100T with a set of 4 batteries to never run out of power because in India there is always something happening!

Below you will find some photographs I was lucky to have made during this great trip. If you want to follow my Facebook photography page, please visit www.facebook.com/TarekZaigouchePhoto.
