Is the New Fujifilm X-T50 Worth It?

· 11.June.2024

I can’t believe we are already discussing another X Summit but here we are once again. This is Fujifilm’s second X Summit of 2024 and I am certain there will be at least one more before the end of the year. To be fair, the first X Summit was all about the X100VI, so it made sense that we would have a mid-year announcement for ‘mid-excitement’ product launches. I’m not trying to be negative. Not every new camera or lens launch has to be epic. The upgraded X Series kit lens is interesting, the new medium format camera is a decent ‘parts-bin’ upgrade and the X-T50 is an experimental camera that might do well with those who are new to Fujifilm and love film simulations. The new FUJINON GF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR lens was the only major announcement at the latest X Summit. Medium format nature and wildlife photographers will be excited about this decently priced telephoto prime lens.

The big surprise at the X Summit for me was the new X-T50. I’ve always been a fan of the X-Txx series cameras. It is the little brother to the professional X-Tx series. Yuji Igarashi of Fujifilm Japan’s personal daily camera is the X-T30 II, so I know this would have been an important camera for him to oversee during its development. As expected, it came out in three finishes (silver, black and charcoal silver), and it has a similar design aesthetic to the previous three generations. Basically, the X-T series has a vintage film SLR look and the new X-T50 definitely looks the part. I personally don’t like the curved top panel but it’s still a handsome-looking camera…
