The Lens of the Mind: A Melancholic Story With the Fujinon XF35mmF1.4

In this ever-evolving world of photography and competent cameras, as the evolution continues there’s something appealing in using a 12-year-old lens – the beautiful and charismatic Fujinon XF35mmF1.4 – paired with the Fujifilm X-T2.

When conceptualising this photo session, I intended to confine myself to the simplicity of these cherished tools, to explore the connection with the person that I was going to photograph using my favourite focal distance, and not worrying about carrying and thinking about a different lens, appreciating the natural process, removing distractions and opting for simplicity, and focusing on the human connection and interaction.

I reached out to my dear friend Catarina and extended an invitation to explore the shores of my home beach for a photo session. Catarina embraced the challenge, making her creative voice and impact felt throughout the process. We embarked on a journey of crafting a visual narrative through what I call ‘the lens of the mind’…
